When Brighten Haiti was launched in 2020, the challenges facing schoolchildren in the Caribbean country were profound. While the organization and its 2022 pv magazine Sustainability Award-winning Solar4Schools program are set to address some issues, the security and economic situation in the nation has deteriorated even further, as Brighten Haiti founder Kevin Keene told Jonathan Gifford.

Brighten Haiti is on a mission to bring solar power to 109 schools on the island through its Solar4Schools program, which will dramatically change education for nearly 55,000 students.

Brighten Haiti, a 501c3 nonprofit founded by former Heliene sales manager Kevin Keene, will install solar systems on 109 schools in rural Haiti, beginning in January 2022.

Mercy Corps and Brighten Haiti, both based in Portland, are working to help the victims of Saturday's powerful earthquake that killed at least 300 people.
